Derek started out hands-on in the construction boom of the 1980s. In the 11990safter attending USF Derek was the lead field superintendent on many construction projects including the Zaballa Square, a retail center on Main Street in Half Moon Bay. With his newly formed construction and land companies, in the period of 2001 - 2014 Derek with his wife, Juliette, built 14 new single-family homes and completed many remodels, all the time supporting Juliette in her thriving real estate business.
